Hey folks,

A fan of watching redevelopment on the south side, as I watch the rest of the cities real estate sore, and people are still worried about Chicago becoming Detroit. Weird.

Anyways, the former Michael Reese Hospital located east just off 31st street has been sitting vacant for years. In the past, the Olympic Village and Obama Museum were both whispers for the site. I guess those are both huge projects for the site, so it makes me think, whatever does come to the site eventually will be pretty cool. Anyone know any discussions going on, or maybe even want to have some fun and put some predictable uses for the site? It's got pretty cool location!

The site remains undeveloped. It is another costly example of how the "imperial" style of Daley and his insider pals have saddled Chicago with massive debt for no good reason. A more prudent City Council would have demanded that the city only option the property instead of entering into a binding deal that now threatens to further weaken the city's finances and put more burden on tax payers. Toss in the fact that with new ER under construction at UofC there is no viable need for any more hospital space in the greater Bronzeville area so that specialized use is now pointless. The premium price that Daley agreed to never really made sense even for higher density apartments in that area as there is so much vacant land available in smaller parcel -- it only happened because Daley wanted to have a traditional "village style" setting that would be easy to control for security purposes. The legacy of even the relatively recent Atlanta Olympics is that many of the venues have a very short and expensive lifespan, with things like the "apartments" being part of the shell game of public institutions moving their liabilities onto other unsuspecting dupes -- Olympic-Era Residence Halls Transferring to GA Tech

Got my Answer - The city just announced they're accepting proposals for redevelopment plans at the site. Perfect timing. I think I'll buy a condo in Bronzeville now. But, no damn ghetto casinos please!
