Not in my neighborhood, but I live on the north side and work in North Center. I know of at least 1 other large employer in that neighborhood.

there's plenty of jobs in the west loop and on the near north side as well. also, the west suburbs and northwest suburbs have plenty. no coincidence these locations are pretty inaccessible for folks on the southside without car access.

the fact that there is pretty much no traffic heading south in the morning and heading north in the evening directly correlates to the lack of jobs in those geographical areas.

And even for those folks on the South Side with car access, many of those northwest suburban jobs can take two hours or more to get to (and that's only one way).

What city are you in? We have one of the best public transit systems in the country. Downtown is easily accessible for people from the south side without cars. As is the north side. Englewood is 8 miles to the loop! 8miles! Who else has a commute less than that? Who in the suburbs has a commute less than that?

most of the people who work downtown have to commute there. And most of the people who live in the suburbs and work in the suburbs still have to commute to work. They aren't walking or working in their neighborhoods. You're comparing a few square mile area on the south side that is a few miles from downtown Chicago, to the north and NW suburbs which covers dozens of miles. Enough with your liberal propaganda.

I went in this Whole Foods over the weekend. It was a smaller store, but very nice and with lower prices. Wasn't very busy on Saturday afternoon. The employees were super nice and even though I was the only white person in there, I didn't get any weird looks.

There's also a Starbucks and Chipotle in the same shopping center. I'm guessing most of the customers are from the nearby hospital.

This is not totally true. If you lived on the southwest side of far south side, then the CTA isn't really an option for commuting downtown.

People who live in poor neighborhoods with poor education and low skills and no money aren't middle class people with less money. Commuting from the south side is a pain in the ass. Commuting from the far south side is worse.

So people are mad that there's a Whole Foods in Englewood, like don't worry about it.
