It's just that I don't see how it's an "honor" to be white.

The presence of a couple of renovated mansions on Michigan Avenue and King Drive does not a gentrified neighborhood make.
calling washington park "bombed out" is a gross exaggeration.

These are at 56th and Prairie. The fire bombing of Dresden could not have done a better job.

Empty undeveloped lots do not equate to "bombed out". This is why people from the suburbs shouldn't comment on the city.

Washington Park isn't too bad, but it definitely has a gritty feel to it. Most of the empty lots in the area once had buildings there. I guess it's better to tear them down than let them rot.

This building was here in 2009, but was gone by 2016

Honorary white is a term developed in Apartheid South Africa to designate non-white people as being equal to white South Africans. African-Americans, Japanese, and black British among other groups were given honorary white status while traveling or staying in the country.

Wow. I didn't realize that they were tearing down homes that recently. Beautiful place too...

Washington park seems like it is beyond gritty. I've stayed in Grand Boulevard for a few months - but scared to stay in Washington Park area.

If Hyde Park is a problem for you Douglas Park is most certainly an issue. On the plus side Douglas Park does have Lagunitas Brewery!!!
