Like the title says, but am I too nosy in asking this?

Remember, I live "FT RV style" in a minivan towing a cargo trailer... So I don't know what Chicago expenses are now!...

Me --

Rent Storage Lots - 12' x 50' = $155, climate 10' x 20' = $129, outdoor 10' x 20' = $63 ===> $347
Water at 37 cents a gallon, probably $3.70 per month
Heating & Cooking Gas -- just buy Propane when needed, may $15 avg
Monthly Unlimited Phone and 50 GB Data = $70
Insurance for minivan, trailer, car, possessions in storage = $148
Vehicle Gas = about $100 / month when I get 10 to 14 mpg avg
P.O. Box = $17
Planetfitness = $20
XSport Fitness = $20

Total Expenses = about $740.70 / month !

I get SSDI and Trust Money which is way more than this, so I can eat good food, groceries, and fast food! Plus buy some good stuff!

No Electricity, Property Tax, Apt Rent, or Water / Sewer Bill

Around the time I moved away in summer 2015, my monthly expenses totaled about $2100, $1585 of which went for rent. (Heat, AC, water, cable, and wifi were included in rent. I paid separately for only electric and phone.)

I ate in restaurants most every day. Not just fast food, either. But I was very careful with my spending. Not owning a car helped a lot with that.

I spend about $2500/mo now, that includes a decent-sized mortgage but otherwise living very frugally.

As for living in an RV, what do you pay for dumping and parking fees? Not many places that will let you camp for free around Chicago.

I guess mortgage plus taxes plus utilities plus assessment run me close to $3,500 per month. Annualized, that amounts to roughly a quarter of my annual income.

I live in River North and walk to work, so it's a pretty great lifestyle.

Off the subject a bit, but how are you enjoying retirement? I haven't noticed you posting in the retirement forum, but obviously you have been for several years.

You can cut your phone bill in half by using a phone with a prepaid service like i have Sprint for $38.98 a month and i have a smart phone so i get internet, google, etc. They have various companies where you pay like $35 a month give or take $10 due to fees. I have just as good phone service as someone paying $100 just for a fancy phone. You can get even cheaper using other kinds. but this is right for me.

I am seriously curious where you can live in Chicago in an RV. My dad owns an RV and frequently drives around visiting the suburbs. I live in the city though and it would be nice if he could stay close to me instead. I'm over by Wrigley. Do you know anywhere nearby that he would be able to park at overnight?

Our mortgage, taxes and home insurance are about 12% of our annual before tax income.
