Interestingly Near North, Near West, Near South, The Loop, Lakeview, Uptown, Lincoln Park, Lincoln Square, North Center, Logan Square, and West Town together have a population that's only about 10,000 people less than the entire city of Boston. The entire city of Boston's college educational attainment percentage is 48.2%. These 11 areas of Chicago's educational attainment percentage is 70.36%

If this is accurate, this summary is really amazing to me, especially given how many educational institutions there are in the Boston area. Thanks for posting this.

It's not like Chicago doesn't have education institutes. If using lists on Wikipedia, the Chicago area has more institutes of higher education than the Boston area. I count 39, across all categories, for the Boston area, and over 77 in Chicagoland (and that's just counting the Chicago City Colleges as a single entity instead of as separate ones despite the fact their campuses tend to specialize in different subjects, and ignoring for-profit schools). Some may question including community colleges, but I figure why not, so I counted the City Colleges in Chicago and places like Bunker Hill CC in the Boston area.

Yes, I definitely knew that there are a LOT of educational institutions around Chicago, but I admit I did not know it was almost double what's in and around Boston.

The trend apparently continues as Chicago gains highly educated and high earning folks while losing lower income less educated people.

Chicago does well when it comes to attracting and retaining college graduates.

I also read this recently.

Quote:
One out of 10 computer science degrees in the nation comes from Illinois colleges and universities, according to the index. California is the only state that churns out more.

The number of computer science graduates has been growing nationally, but Illinois’ annual growth of 21.5 percent outpaces the national average of 19.8 percent.
