Check the numbers. That weekend in April, only 6 people actually died.

I did not want to be right, but I was.

"So far this year, murder has claimed more lives in Chicago than during all of 2007. The total stood at 482 on Dec. 4, up from 443 last year. It’s the most since 2003, when 601 people were murdered. The record was 970 homicides in 1974, said Monique Bond, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman."

At least I was wrong about the hot summer though.

"way over 500"?!? Around 500 is most likely, so about a 10-12% increase from 2007.

The last count on Everyblock is 450 up until 11/27, which puts us on track for just under 500. The homicide rate dropped a bit after a spike in the spring and early summer and has stayed close to last years rate since then.
