Anyone know any good places to see some jazz? I've been going to the Green Mill for the last few weeks but am getting kind of tired of it. The music is always good but they've got the same schedule every week, and you can't talk at all there. Don't get me wrong, it definitely sucks when the crowd's real chatty and no one's paying attention to the music, but there's got to be some kind of middle ground where you can have a casual conversation with your friend at a reasonable volume without being shushed. Also not a big fan of the beer selection.

So where's another place to go where I can see some good jazz without paying a fortune for the cover?

Jazz? I like the saxophonist who plays a jazzy version of the Flinstones theme over and over and over again on Michigan Avenue. Pure genius.

That is all he can play that is why he plays it.

A "jazzy" version of the Flinstones theme, eh? Maybe it's easier to recognize if you can tune out the vocals, but the Flinstones theme song is a quintessential big-band jazz tune. Change the lyrics to something about booze or New York and have ol' Blue Eyes sing it, maybe slow the tempo down a bit, and you've got a Vegas lounge hit on your hands.

I just think he's slightly detached from reality. A mad genius like Brian Wilson or Sid Barrett. It's like watching one of those Andy Warhol movies where someone just sleeps in front of the camera for 12 hours.

If I had a gong, I'd hit it for this guy.
