Hi guys

My name's Ana, I'm 25yrs old and my partner and I are doing a 2yr working holiday in the US next year but we can't decide where to base ourselves.

I love Chicago and wanted to know if it is a good safe place to live, with a family vibe to it? That's what we're really after

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks!!

I think it is safe to say there is no metropolican area in the US that is 100% safe to live. but there are pockets of family friendly areas in all the cities including Chicago.. Where your work area is l;ocated is more likely to dictate where you live because of trave; time.. Chicago is a sprawling town where travel is measured by minutes rather than miles. In other words you probably don't want to live in family friendly Alqonquin because the travel time into the City is close to 60 minutres one way. .There are many ethnic areas too. If you are German, for instance, you might be more comfortable liviing in a German neighborhood than a neighborhood that is say principally French speaking. There are many ways to "cut the pie" so to speak.

Chicago is as different than New York as New York is as different as Miami. It is unique and you're gonna love it. It's a good thing you are taking a two year holiday. You'll need that to explore half of the US.

Can you give more specifics? What do you like, where are you from? You say family friendly, do you have kids? Do you have jobs lined up? I didn't know it was possible for people to come here to work temporarily (legally). I haven't lived in Chicago itself for 10 years, but I lived in Lincoln Square/Ravenswood for several years and loved it.
