THANK GOD, Chicago didn't make America's top 10 unhappiest cities list, no where near. Since we made one of the most miserable cities about 2 weeks ago, which i will never understand.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland is the unhappiest city America, according to a new ranking by BusinessWeek magazine.

The publication said it ranked 50 of the country's largest metropolitan areas based on a variety of factors, including depression rates, suicide rates, divorce rates, crime, unemployment, population loss, job loss, weather, and green space. The most heavily weighted factors were the depression, suicide, unemployment and crime rates.

Well, at least depression, divorce, and suicide are actually factors that make people miserable... Unlike the "political corruption" touted in the stupid Forbes article.

When I saw that article on MSN, I just knew they would have something bad to say about our great city. I was pleasantly surprised to see the list, especially since many of the listed cities weren't any that I had heard of before as being "unhappy"

Eh.

I'm ambivalent.

I'm more likely to be inclined to tell you to simply sod off rather than do anything about unhappiness; certainly I wouldn't complain about it.

That's the Chicago attitude. It isn't unhappy, it's just reserved.

Most people I know who live in Portland absolutely love it. The miserable ones live in places like Beloit.

Yeah... I don't know anyone who chooses to live in a small but otherwise very well planned city in the heart of Natureville for no reason. Most people I know who live there are very, very dedicated to Portland. And more power to them, I say.

I imagine this year's rankings are due in no small part to the extreme difficulty one has in finding and keeping a job in Portland.

Agreed. Why are they so irresistable to magazine editors? Is this what journalism has been reduced to?
