I was recently hired in the Chicago Public Schools, so I have to relocate to the city within the next few months. I really like the Wicker Park area, but it can be a bit pricey. I've noticed that Logan Square and Humbolt Park are a lot less expensive, but I've heard that Humbolt Park can be dangerous. Does anyone have any advice for me?

you can easily search the forums for keywords and i recommend doing that and then coming back to post with more specific questions. we have covered both of these neighborhoods in detail so you should have no problems finding info.

Quickly, just to give you a general idea. Wicker Park is very trendy. Lots of art stuff over there. Humboldt Park is quite dangerous at times. Logan Square is up and coming. Keep in mind these neighborhoods are huge and some of them have tens of thousands of residents.

You're going to have to spend a lot of time with the threads on these neighborhoods, starting with those surlycue linked to, or alternatively a lot of time driving around and talking to people in the area.

Both of these neighborhoods run the gamut from areas indistinguishable from their neighbor Wicker Park, to areas I wouldn't recommend walking around at night. So if you want to live there, it will take more subtlety. You will have determine the blocks you want to live on and confine your search to there, instead of looking according to neighborhood. But if you do your homework, you can definitely find a place in HP or LS that someone who likes Wicker Park would like. And if you move there you won't be the only one like you around.
