Looking for a decent kid friendly neighborhood. (Chicago, Evergreen Park: rentals, low crime)

Hi there, my husband and I are being transferred once again (that makes twice in 4 months). We are looking for a nice family oriented neighborhood. Unfortunately since we move frequently renting is our only option. We will probably be in Chicago for a couple of years. What I want is a 3 bedroom house 2 baths, back yard, Central Air, appliances included and parking. Can you please tell me of neighborhoods with young families, low crime and close to commuter trains and amenities like restaurants and shopping? I need to know what rent range I would be looking at. So if you could tell me approximately what I would be looking at I would appreciate it. My husbands office is downtown near the Tribune building if anyone knows where that is. So if you could give me an idea of commute times that would be great.

Look in Lincoln Square or Andersonville. I have heard some good things about those neighborhoods in terms of raising families. You will find the types of homes you are looking for with a lot of space. Not so sure about the back yard, but maybe it is possible.

Lincoln Square is off the brown line, and there would be a bit of a hike from the brown line to Tribune, but it's do-able. I have a friend that lives in Lincoln Park and does that walk.

Lincoln Square and Andersonville are both good areas to check out. You should also look at Jefferson Park and Albany Park, they both have good access to downtown via the Blue line (and then the Grand Ave. bus to the Tribune building or walk from Clark and Lake).

You can transfer from the Brown Line to the Red Line at either Fullerton or Belmont (at least you were able to prior to the construction that has just started on the El tracks). The Grand Avenue Red Line stop is then only a couple of blocks away from Tribune Tower.

Try Evergreen Park some one may know of some rentals because we have a few houses on the market longer than usual. It is less than an 1 hour via the rock island.

This is why I suggested many of these old threads be deleted. The same question has been asked many with alot of info in other threads and these threads asking the same question basically screw up the boards.
