So we decided on Andersonville and saw a killer apartment in this area right off Clark. Everything seemed great but I caught a glimpse of some graffiti on the apartment building across from us.

I know Andersonville is pretty safe and gay friendly but should I be worried? What is this area normally like- safety wise? Just some neighborhood teenage thugs or worse?

Definitely a nice area. Safe, friendly, and with a decent selection of bars and restaurants.

You will be fine. I live near this area myself. One day you will look back and laugh at yourself for asking.

Gangbanging/mugging/drug dealing/gang graffiti are the kinds of hobbies that people do in their own neighborhood. Graffiti writers who are not interested in marking gang turf like to travel around, meaning whoever wrote that piece could live a dozen miles away. Or it could even be some kid from nearby (poor or wealthy) who was bored, fancied himself an artist, and picked up a can of spray paint.

Based on that neighborhood though, I highly doubt it's gang-related. So I would venture say you will be perfectly fine there.

Haha, I figured I was over worrying, but I just wanted to make sure. I mean, the area looked really great when we checked it out and most people there seemed friendly.

Thanks for the answers!

You do, however, risk getting licked to death by someone's sweet golden retriever or something

And just be aware that the Swedish-American museum is actually a front for the infamous Swedish mob. They'll hold you down and feed you herring if you show too much ambition.

If it's a bad enough offense, you'll get the lutefisk.

You do not want the lutefisk.
