By cute I mean interesting little non-chain shops, coffee shops, restaurants, wine bars...

A street in Roscoe Village? Bucktown? Armitage?

What do the experts say?

Lincoln between Lawrence and Leland in Lincoln Square. No question.

Lincoln Avenue is pretty nice from its southern tip all the way up to Lawrence, culminating in that nice stretch along the 4600 and 4700 block.

I have to say Alta Vista Terrace...no shops or restaurants, but definitely has the cute factor...

Ri-No beat me to the Alta Vista Terrace street.

I'll offer up another: Eastlake Terrace from Birchwood north to the city limit. Residential, some great old elegant and HUGE Chicago 6-flats and courtyards, 3 community beaches, and that little pond called Lake Michigan form this little gem of a neighborhood.

No cutesy stores really, but one would still not expect a settling like this just a couple blocks from Howard & the El, which is pretty ghettofied.

Armitage from Halsted west to Sheffield or so oozes cute, though it has become more full of chains and bank branches in recent years. North Damen in Bucktown has fully switched over from "edgy" to "cute" in recent years, but again, chains have sprouted up there too. Clark street in Andersonville also fits this bill, in addition to the places mentioned above by other posters.

I think this is one of the most interesting blocks in Chicago--largely because of the way the mostly vintage buildings are RIGHT ON THE WATER. And the small beaches that dot the Rogers Park coastline make me pine for the destruction of Lakeshore Drive.

If we can count residential blocks, I've always loved the 2100 block of N. Bissell. Amazing rowhouses for not being on the east coast.

Yes, LK. It's one of those "secret" places about which many, even long-time Chicagoans, know very little.

If I could've afforded to buy when my landlord sold many years ago, I'd still be there now.
