Oh my goodness, this has to be the best one yet! You're absolutely right, yet so many will tell you that's what you must do to be saved.

God works in mysterious ways is a questionable one. While you cannot find that phrase in any translation I am aware of, I am not so certain it is not true.

Truly, O God of Israel, our Savior, you work in mysterious ways. Isaiah 45:15 (NLT)

It ain't in there, folks. Not at all.

Ben Franklin gets the credit for that one.

A sinners prayer and very simple!
LK 18:13 "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner."

Good one!

Psalm 51 comes to mind but it's longer

1Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
3For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
4Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are proved right when you speak
and justified when you judge.
5Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6Surely you desire truth in the inner partsa;
you teachb me wisdom in the inmost place.
7Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.
10Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Obviously, from this thread we are to use our God-given common sense, and of course be totally honest and sincere.

The bible translations LOST a few things. No, there is not so much mistranslation that our salvation message can be harmed by it. However, it remains true.

The perfect example is "resist not evil." Good grief! of course are supposed to resist evil, not lay down for it, and I do mean literally in a lot of imaginable scenarios.
I would not resist a thief, he may have a gun hidden away or an angry man/women who just needs to vent.

I'm sure many sinners prayed. But, "the sinner's prayer" to be saved is not there.
