TULSA, Okla. - Twenty years ago, televangelist Oral Roberts said he was reading a spy novel when God appeared to him and told him to raise $8 million for Roberts' university, or else he would be "called home."
Now, his son, Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts, says God is speaking again, telling him to deny lurid allegations in a lawsuit that threatens to engulf this 44-year-old Bible Belt college in scandal.

_ The university jet was used to take one daughter and several friends on a senior trip to Orlando, Fla., and the Bahamas. The $29,411 trip was billed to the ministry as an "evangelistic function of the president."
Whoopsie..
The Associated Press: Scandal Brewing at Oral Roberts U. (broken link)
It's been a while since a televangelist had a scandal. (ZZZzz) I don't entertain this nonsense. As far as I am concerned there isn't a televangelist that I know of that does not compromise their ethics fiscally. Does that mean that they are not men of God? No, to me it means that they have a problem in this area and that they need deliverance, rebuking and most of all prayer. Do we throw a man of God such as Oral Roberts and his University under the bus? I say, not.

If lying in the name of God for the purpose of aquiring money does not qualify someone as "not a man of God" then I don't know what does.
Would Roberts have to actually utter the phrase "I reject God" for Christians to see through him and his blasphemy?
I don't even believe in God, yet Roberts still offends my image of Christianity.

That's a good point.
If there is scandal involved (and those numbers on his daughter's trip look pretty damning) then he should certainly be held responsible for that.
I guess what I read in Tina's response was that he is still human. That's no excuse and again, he needs to be held accountable. But I would say that there are parts of his ministry that are honoring God.
I think back to PTL and Jim Bakker, while what he and his wife did was disgusting, I don't for a second doubt the validity of the salvation of those he led to the Lord.
I don't know if that makes sense and I know you are an atheist, but I'm trying to explain my thoughts.....

So its o.k. to take those Medicare checks and spend them on a Mercedez.. a Lexus.. maybe a senior trip for your daughter to the tune of $30,000??

I would have to say the Lord often brings us examples of what to do and what not to do. Such things as what some of the televangelists are getting publicity about should be a warning to us all! To be careful to not allow such things to happen to us!
It's the little foxes that spoil the vine. One small thing leads to becoming callused in bigger areas.
Also to not put ministers of any sort on a pedastel and to worship the Lord our God and not man!!!
Also to pray for those that are in trouble! God forgives all but blaspheming the Holy Spirit!
Have mercy dear Lord! In Jesus name amen.

I don't know whether the University receives any public funds or not, but it enjoys a non-profit status, so it is not strictly an internal affair.
