You are correct, Dew. The trivialization of our walk with Christ is rampant among too many Churches and preachers today. Here is what we should be focused on:
Colossians 3:12-14New International Version (NIV)
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Okay, so the other morning I'm working out & watching Christian TV and I hear this TV Preacher talking about forgiving your spouse and how your spouse should be able to come talk to you about anything and you not condemn him for it. Then he uses the analogy of a man lusting for women is no different than a woman lusting not just for one krispy kreme donut, but for a dozen krispy kreme donuts. Everybody laughed and he confessed how he used to have a problem in this area?
Now is it me or is that just not the same thing?
Krispey Kreme wont give you an STD, pregnancy, or an affair on your record. Nor will a Krispey Kreme get jealous when you go back to your wife.
Unless one is lusting after a doughnut to have sex with it, the 2 cant be compared. Typically if one lust after the opposite sex, that lust will turn into sexual desires. I have yet to see someone sexually desire a doughnut, steak or ice cream.
Um yeah I've seen a person lust after his car.. on the tv show Strange Sex. I would not be surprised to see a man lusting after a few donuts.

Amen Mystic. It is never what is righteous but what is sin. How can you ever know what righteousness is when you are continually sin conscious
It's definitely not comparable but to address a point here, we absolutely need to know and understand what sin is. Without that knowledge then how do we avoid it? We can't live our lives in a bubble pretending that temptations aren't there. In this case a donut does not necessarily have to be the same as a mistress but it can certainly become one if we are not careful.

Sin is breaking God's law.
Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
- 1 John 3:4
Coveting after anything is sin, so if you truly covet a donut, it would be sin.
There's a huge difference between donuts and lust for a woman or man who is not your spouse. Lust for donuts is no sin. Lust for someone else's spouse or for another person you are not married to is sin. Simple. To covet, would be to desire to take someone else's doughnut in a sinful way, like stealing it. Wanting it and being willing to pay the cost is no sin.
Revealing the utter lack of understanding of sin involved in religion today. Sin is a lack of agape love. It is "missing the mark" and harming others in pursuit of your selfish desires, period. It is not a category of felonies and misdemeanors against God!!
Actually the very definition of sin is lawlessness. Specifically the Law of God -- or the breaking of God's commands. That is, if we want to actually listen to what God has to say about it.
"4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness." 1 John 3:4

Legalists would probably agree with you, Vizio . . . but those who follow Christ's example would not. Jesus summarized ALL the law into two: . . . "love God and each other."
The absolutely ridiculous questions posed in this forum are just mind-boggling. Sin is acting selfishly without consideration or love for the harm you cause others, period.
Some of the questions so called christians ask ,indicate that they have been badly taught.
Never mind krispy cremes whatever they may be,it is time 'sin' was put in the context of the time, for example gluttony would have been a 'sin' if you were eating someone elses 'portion',and left them to go hungry, and while adultery is a horribe sin ,it pales in comparison with the wicked cruel self righteous
condemning of the pharisees who find comfort in 'religion' for their hate filled hearts .
Those who are obsessed with adultery, are obsessed with sex ,and THAT IS A SIN .
