Make it right with yourself by accepting the wrong you did and acknowledging the pain / frustration they must have experienced. NOTE: THIS IS NOT REGRET, this is being responsible and accountable
Don't we really believe that you either have the Holy Spirit or YOU DON'T?
And if you cannot tell if you do, well then, that is probably your answer..
Excellent post
Paul says in Romans 8:[9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
He is saying that if we do not have the Spirit of Christ, we are not saved.

No he is not saying anything about being saved. Christ DID that part! We have nothing to do with it! He is saying if you do not have the Spirit of agape love you do not have the cover for your imperfections of Christ's perfect agape love (Grace). You will reap what you sow and have not repented of. The evil or wickedness or unlove will be refined out as dross in the consuming fire of God's pure love. It will NOT be pleasant.
Offer your sorrow to their spirit for the pain you caused and ask forgiveness.
I have, hopefully they heard. I've had guilty feelings about one of my dogs that recently passed away, and I feel I should have done more. Also I have always felt guilty for not spending enough time with a family member before they died, even though I KNEW they were very sick and were not going to be around much longer. It makes you realize to never take anyone for granted, and that life is so short and is over before you know it.

Good lessons to learn.
Although the path to learning them is thorny, the growth is worth the pain.

Reminds of the scripture of speaking lies in hypocrisy, if you are not in the flesh then where are you except lost. But if the gospel be hid, it is hid to those who are lost.
Another hypocrisy, if the Spirit of God dwells in your flesh then you must be the God of God since it is written in John 4:24, God is a Spirit.
Another hypocrisy, since the Trinity dogma of Christians holds that the Father and the Son are distinct personages, or rather the Father is not the Son as the Son is not the Father according to the dogma of the Trinity according to those who fabricated it: 254 The divine persons are really distinct from one another. "God is one but not solitary." "Father", "Son", "Holy Spirit" are not simply names designating modalities of the divine being, for they are really distinct from one another: "He is not the Father who is the Son, nor is the Son he who is the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit he who is the Father or the Son." They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin: "It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds." The divine Unity is Triune.
To put it in simple words, X X X are not three X's, but three seperate X's, So pick the X which is the eternal X. Come on now, three X's and all you have to do is pick the one that is eternal, everybody's a winner! Sorry, that one isn't the eternal X because the eternal has no origin, it always was, is and will always be.
If you truly seek the truth then nothing I have said should offend you or threaten your faith, but if it does then you might consider John 8:44.

Nothing you say offends me or threatens my faith, not even your reference:
"You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
But seriously, you need to do some study on logic. Your conclusions do not follow the premises and your process is derailed. Criticism is fine, but it should be thoughtful and reasonable.
