The ever so liberal media keeps bringing up Mitt Romney's religion. We keep hearing them claim that, despite any credentials he might have to become President of the United States, the evangelical Christians within the Republican Party will automatically vote against him for one reason and one reason only: Mitt Romney is a Mormon.
Frankly, I'm absolutely blown away by this statement. It seems completely absurd. I don't think the liberal media comprehending what motivates Christians. How can they? They seem to believe that Abortion is a fine idea, that pornography is freedom of speech and are very accepting of quite a number of things that are quite contrary to Christianity.
Frankly, I'm not sold on Mitt Romney nor any of the Republican canditates. I'm also getting the feeling that the Republican Party is pretty much doomed to lose no matter who runs. But I'd like other people's take on this. I don't feel that the liberal media has any right to put words in other people's mouths.
Would you vote against Mitt Romney (or refuse to vote at all) based solely on the fact that he is a Mormon?
i haven't sold myself on any of the candidates yet, though i'm getting there. i won't reject romney just because he's mormon. but i am mormon, so that doesn't say much.
however, i am not going to vote for romney just because he is mormon either. in fact, at the moment, i am very much anti-clinton (yes, admittedly, just because she is a hillary clinton), and pro-obama. but we'll see. i still have some time to decide.
He Appears To Be A Decent, Moral Person.i Hope It Is Not So That Christians Would Discriminate And Vote Against Him Because He's A Mormon.
I certainly hope you are right. Every time I encounter the notion that people actually WOULD base their vote solely upon Mitt's religion -- it makes me feel sick inside.
Many Christians seem to believe that Mormonism is a cult. It could be they have little knowledge of the religion, it could be personal preferance. I have family that happen to follow the teachings of the LDS Church. I would rather attend a gathering of the LDS Elders than a gathering of Evangelical leaders myself. I have found the ones I have met to be "real" people that do an awful lot of good works. I guess I found them comforting in disposition. If I were to vote for a republican, he would be first on my list.
If this thread was on the political forum u would probably get a lot of responses. In fact, it has been the topic of several posts. U may find it interesting to take a look at them.
Mormonism is a cult. Technically, so are all religions... but some fit the description better than others.
Any "religion" that will not let you in to the front doors of its temple, church, whatever... until you sign on the dotted line, is going to creep a lot of people out.
As for Romney, I think that the Mormonism issue is actually less of a problem than the fact that he comes across as exactly what he is - a spoiled rotten brat with a short temper, a big mouth and all the charisma of a skilled car salesperson.

No, not at all.
What bothers me is that Bain Capital (His company) and Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei teamed up to purchase 3Com as some of 3Com's products contain sensitive technologies related to national security.
So we have another person (Clinton is the other) possibly being president selling our national security to a socialist/communist country. Great.
