I know it is difficult if you are not a bible fundamentalist not to respond to such a question, but could it be possible to give them floor to explain it..... Well at least for a few hours. Hopefully they can provide scriptures for it too.
In long ago past before the universe was created satan and his minions rebelled against God so God called up his army of loyal angels led by Michael to defend heaven against satan's attack. Odd considering God could have blown them all away with a single puff of his breath. And now you know how folklore develops. The bronze age desert goat herders who think this stuff up never think critically enough to have such questions occur to them.
Just to throw a spanner in the works.... Is the eternal you attribute to God the same eternal you attribute to that place of eternal torment ?. So if yes, then surely you are saying eternal torment has always been there regardless.
God said from Isaiah 66:24............``And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me, for their worms will not die, their fire will not be quenched, and they will be an abhorrence to all flesh ``........... As one of the early revelations from God of eternal torment
It has never entered his mind to have such a place. But God is told he better have it ready for those that don't believer like we do. And God better have it done. Tradition trumps truth. And in this case, hell has trumped what God desires. People would be so upset to hear that God won't burn the worms but the humans will burn. I swore I was a little more value alive than a sparrow. I heard they someone kinda important said such a thing.
