That is simply not true. Sheol is the Hebrew word for the underworld\ grave \ hell \ pit which in the Greek is Hades.

Therefore when Jesus said "paradise" to the thief, the correct answer is he was speaking of heaven.

Explain briefly how folk in heaven can communicate with those in hell and not only that see folk in there suffering. Can you imagine your unbelieving seeing your unbelieving family in there and calling out to you for a drop of water.
That's not the case now. It was before Christ's death and resurrection.

When Jesus told the thief on the cross that today He would be with Him in paradise, where is that? The answer is Sheol (place of departed spirits).

And the view of an immortal soul is another fallacy.
