Depends the context...Sometimes it just means bread and other times it is a metaphor...
Good. A major point is that there were several different kinds of "bread," just as there are today, but we all know that it is generically speaking of a cake or loaf made from various grains that is a staple food type of many societies. In some societies the metaphoric use of the term might be better served by saying something like "the rice of life." or "the poi of life."
Did the translators of King James just assume what they meant was bread from the original Greek and Hebrew or was it really hulled millet or spelt?
Originally, it was an unleavened bread that was used in the Passover supper. In other areas, such as when Jesus multiplied the fish and loaves, it would likely be just bread. Nothing special.
