Abraham, King Jehosophat, and King Solomon
great leaders, faith , and obedience, and the way they turned things around with their wisdom, fought to keep unity also amongst the people
In Hebrew 11, it mentions many people of faith including Abel, Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, and others.
They all were men and women of faith.
It says "through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the word, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.(Heb 11:33, 34).
Heb 11:6 states that, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him"
So a great leader must be a man or woman of faith.
i think courage and obedience to God are important.
if you look at Joshua he was an amazing leader, very diplomatic and considerate in his allocation of lands, and he stuck to his guns. Joshua 1:1-9 (where they are about to set about the task of crossing the Jordan) God specifically instructs him (at least 3 times) to be "strong and courageous", and God also says "be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do." (v. 7)
these two traits can also be seen in 1 chronicles 28 when David hands over the kingdom to Solomon, until his downfall Solomon was considered a very wise king. David encourages Solomon to “be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you."(v.20) David instructs him to "be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, so that you may continue to possess this good land and leave it to your children as a permanent inheritance"(v. 8) . says the same sort of thing is reiterated in v. 7 and 9.
i think it is interesting to note that for both these leaders they were told to be courageous and to obey God's law. we can see in Solomon’s life what the consequences for disobedience really are. he stopped listening to God and reaped the results. on the other hand, Joshua was quite successful in everything he did. he had his occasional screw ups (eg. chapter 9) but overall acted in a Godly way that was above reproach. even in the end of the book he reiterates how important it is to obey God. (chapter 23)
I think (like a couple of others have said) faith plays a big part of this. by being obedient Joshua displayed where he put his faith. he had faith that God would give them the land of Canaanites, he even waited 40 years for it, that’s commitment. I think it took a fair amount of faith to follow though on God’s plan to march around Jericho a couple of times and blow trumpets. from a human perspective this plan was quite impossible, but he did it and it payed off.

Reason: to get rid of the [veranda][font type brackets]
To the OP poster: Why don't you read it for yourself and come to your own conclusions?
Are you asking people to do your own reading for you and and to draw conslusions for your "research paper"?
So you're just researching other people's opinions on the matter, to write about???
OK- looking for a new take consider this: Barnabas (Acts 4:36 encourager) (Acts 9:27 ability to forgive- Paul was a pretty bad dude prior to his salvation and the fact that Barnabas could get past that and present him to the apostles speaks volumes) Acts 11:25-26 recgonizes potetial in others and giving them a chance- Acts 15-3 defends the rights of people to be different (the gentiles were alot different than the jews)
Finally Barnabas did not want attention for himself he did what God called him to do in virtual anonymity.
How about Nehemiah? He was a "pray then move" person, that is, he would pray to God and then move in the prayer, knowing that when God opens doors we still have to walk through them. He lead a group of people to rebuild a wall against all odds, including false prophets, to build the wall in just 52 days. Although he was lead by King Artaxerxes, he was made governor of Judah after reconstruction all because he listened to and prayed to God in the beginning, middle and end.
It appears that he was a man of good values, as he did not take more than what he needed with food and such things. He didn't want to abuse the power of his office position, and more importantly, didn't want to take more than needed because there was already a great strain on the people. That tells me that he was in tune with the NEEDS of the people that he had enlisted to help.

in Matthew 18:1-6...`` Jesus saying Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven? .. And Jesus called a little child unto him and set him in the mist of them..... and said ...Verily I say unto you Except you be converted and become a little children you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven..... Whosoever shall humble themself as a little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.... And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me...... But whosoever shall offend one of these little one which believes in me, It is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea....``..... The person in the bible that fits that discriptions that Jesus says here is the one ,,Every leader in the word of God has faults and are not perfect in all ways but if they humble themself and follow the Lord God as a child would and beleived Jesus than he is the greatest or one of them......
