When Abraham's nephew, Lot, was captured by Kings from other countries, Abraham formed an army and rescued Lot.
Genesis 14:8-16
8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim 9 against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills. 11 The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away. 12 They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
13 One who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother [c] of Eshcol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.
However later Abraham, out of fear, has his wife Sarah say she is Abraham's sister rather than wife so that Abimelech would not take Sarah and kill Abraham.
Genesis 20: 1-3
1 Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar, 2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, "She is my sister." Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman."
If Abraham could defend and rescue Lot with an army, why couldn't he defend the honor of his wife Sarah?
This is the second time Abraham had lied about Sarah being his wife. He did not learn his lesson well enough the first time. In fact by this time he risked turning a sinful act into a sinful pattern of lying whenever he thought his life was in danger. Abraham thought it would be better to deceive Abimelech than to trust God.
He was a coward. One of his many sins God convicted him of.
You and I do not get to make-up sins. Only God can do that.
God does not call such a sin, God never said that Abraham sinned in this manner.
We do not get to make up new sins to fit our culture.
