I have heard someone talk about the bible saying something about...
Having Tattoo's as sinful?
Does anyone know where it states this or what it says?
I have also heard that Catholics believe having a tattoo of Christ,Cross, etc is Blasphemy?

A short answer....

The Old Testament does talk about cutting, marking the body or tattoos in Leviticus 19:28.
In OT times, people were also marked by their owners, or as criminals... it was forbidden for the Hebrew people.

"Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

I am not a legalist. It is my humble opinion that God is not looking at your tattoos -- He's looking at our hearts.
But, that doesn't mean that I believe christians should rush out and get tattoos, either.

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering..."

Romans 8:1

God bless!

I have a tattoo from my teenage, drug abusing years. Now, I forget that I even have it. I've had people start up conversations because of it, and I've been able to communicate how He has changed my life.

Maybe we're too squeaky clean for people to find comfort in (?) The gospel is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.

Amen!

Your post makes me think of Jesus in His ministry on earth. Where and with whom did He spend His time?

+1 reps to you!

Tattoos is not a sin in of itself. There was a reason back then for tattoos, it was not mere body art. It was used to worship pagan gods and the Jews were practicing pagan beliefs which God forbid among the Jews because it was idolatry.

What is your reason for placing a tattoo is the question you should be asking yourself and how does society view tattoos? especially on people who claim to be Christian? Always remember as a Christian you represent God in this fallen, broken world.

This web site has some interesting arguments for tattoos:
Religious Tattoos > A Web Site Devoted to Judeo-Christian Body Art
I'm not against them and as far as I know, the Catholic Church is not against them, but I'd have to look it up in the Canon Law (which with as long as the Canon is, could take a while, lol!).

I think each believer should then be led of the Spirit as to whether they should remove what could be seen as offensive toward the brethren - personally, I've received positive feedback from many who see it as a testimony. I'm not fake, I really know where you've been - and God's salvation isn't too distant.

That's what I said. It's up to you, BUT the reason for placing a tattoo could be a sin.

So you must ask yourself, what is the reason for the tattoo?

I just thought of those converted in prison. Like me, you may have seen images from documentaries where incarcerated converts emblazon their bodies with messages of God’s love. That’s where I consider that (for some, at least) this is their best way of communicating with those around them of what the Lord has done.

In that environment, the medium is altered, so the message is as well.

Jesus was not a legalist. We shouldn't be either.
