Not long ago another gay priest was confirmed...and it almost caused a split within the Episcopal church. I don't know what the status of that is now, maybe others can add that to this thread.
doesn't that sound sacriligious
I mean I dont have a darned thing against gay people but that just doesnt sound right
isn't it kinda learn by example vocation
I am episcopalian. We have LOADS of gay priests. We've had them for a long long time.
It's only recently we've admitted it.
McGreevey has a long road to the priest hood. I really doubt he is going to make it all the way. I know some people at the seminary where he is enrolled, and he is not so special for being gay. He is going to have to go through the same discernment as the rest of them.
Once he figures out he is not special, the church will not allow him to use it to look "saintly" so that he can continue to abuse his wife and that it is a long and rather unglamerous road, I really doubt he will feel such a strong calling.

Why the surprise? Divorcees are priests (or pastors) as are women, both of whom are portrayed in the Bible as unfit for church leadership.

yes it is,it still confuses me are episcopalians the only one that alow this
As a former Episcopalian, let me just say that the Episcopal church tends to be very liberal... I may have said this early in this thread (this is an old thread) but one Episcopal church here in the suburb I live in made national news by disassociating with the Episcopal Church because of disagreement over this sort of thing.
One of the current problems that is causing a big rift is that there is actually a gay bishop.
My own opinion is that there are gays in every denomination. Look at Ted Haggard for example. Why, I have no idea. Maybe they are looking for some sort of justification.
I'm not in the position to judge.
