Hey guys,

Its me again. I am the one who is doing a MASSIVE HUGE (worth 40 percent of my grade ) project on Christianity for school.

My professor wants me to focus on "Issues of Gender and Practice in Christianity".

So I was wondering if anyone can tell me about their experiences in Christianity due to Gender (good or bad) and explain. Perhaps show me a few Biblical scriptures.

1) Is Christianity sexist? Or consider it equal?
2) What is the role of women in your Church and religion?
3) What is the role of men in your Church and religion?

Once again, thank you all. I am not trying to get you all to do my homework () but it certainly helps me to get a better perspective since the only touch of Christianity I had were the last 4 or 5 Church services.

THANKS!

That sounds like it is going to be some interesting research. If I were you, I would attend different Churches to get a “feel” of how “different” they can be.
The question, “Is Christianity sexist?” The plain answer is “NO” but “religion” can be, and often is, sexist. I believe that comes from man’s traditions that have been (for lack of a better term) incorporated into Christianity. That is why many Churches are so different.

Here is a good start for you. Junia, A Women Apostle - FREE bible articles prove women can serve as leaders!
If you click on the button “Women” to the left on that page, you will be well on your way to learning all about men and women in the real Church. Which, by the way, is different than a Church congregation.

Of course you can search the subject yourself, and I’m sure you will, and you will find many different sites with different opinions. That leads me to this suggestion. Go to this site, e-Sword - the Sword of the LORD with an electronic edge
You can download this Bible for free. There are also many add ons you can download. It’s safe, I’ve had it for years with no problems along with many people I know. Many different translations, commentaries, a search feature… you can literally find all the verses with the word “woman” and “women” with a click of a mouse, along with any other thing you are looking for in the Bible. It also has a strong’s concordance, and Thayer’s Greek definitions. As a matter of fact, I should go there to see what they have available that is new since the last time.

Of course Christianity is sexist, well it is paternalistic. The Gospels / Bible were written by men in a time when male's held all the power. Equality was a foreign concept at that time, women were property how could they be equal?

In my denomination women are ordained and serve in many of the leadership roles (including the equivalent to Bishop's)[/quote]

No different than women.

Clearly during the 'Acts' period most churches were the households of females, many of them are listed.

However because there is one passage where women are told not to interrupt or dispute their husbands in the church; it is commonly taught by some denominations that women should not hold office in the church.

Today we see through a glass, shadows and clouds, of what lies ahead.
