I have an 88 xj, 6 cyclinder, automatic
My flexplate is either cracked or loose..
Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good mechanic that wont cost an arm and both legs..

I have a buddy who had this happen, it sounds like bad piston slap or even a rod knocking.

Any decent indy shop *should* be able to tighten the torque-converter to flex plate bolts, which is normally all that needs to be done. It's well within the capabilities of a decent shade tree mechanic, if you can change your own spark plugs you can probably do this job no problem.
