Bigger better? Bigger maybe, but I don't think the wife would necessarily get something better, probably a wagon.

As for Chargers, I've got a 76 Cordoba with a 360 which is just a luxury Charger. As said the late 60s are much better, but I would still take a earlier or later one. The 3 quarter windows are kind of cool and I almost bought a yellow SE. Chargers/Cordobas did fill the personal luxury market. Cordobas/Miradas were around till 83, but I guess after that the only thing comparable to a Monte Carlo would be a Lebaron Turbo or Daytona.

My old '72 Charger:

Love that bodystyle, and it's plymouth sister, the Sattelite/Road Runner:

Look at that snout...it's cartoonish!

It's classic proportions, going back to the first "performance" cars and luxury cars. Not strange or unusual at all until the very modern era. But when they were being made in the '60s and '70s, it was normal.

Hell, even for sports cars:

See, the proportions aren't really that odd, taken in historical context.

Surprised no one brought up the Chrysler version, the Cordoba. My mom had to have one because of Ricardo Montebon (SP?). My dad agreed to get one but with the 400 cid engine and we used it to tow a camper on vacation back in the late 1970s and early 1980s

I always HATED these cars. A neighbor had one when I was growing up. His was red and white either brand new or just a few years old. I remember it saying Sebring Sattelite or something to that extent. It looked odd to me, like not right, asymmetrical styling, etc. Plus, it made that distinguishable, wheezy Dodge sound when being started. I am sorry guys. I am not knocking older American cars; I had a few, but this particular Dodge offering was always one I disliked.

The Sattelite was the one I posted above in blue. Not assymetrical at all. And teh starter was a gear reduction starter. I've got one in my diesel truck, and I put one in my Jaguar XJ6, as it has more torque to turn high compression engines over. That sound is typical of the gear reduction box in them. Mopars had those stock for many decades. Much more reliable and strong starters.

I hated the taste of beer as a kid. Good thing I don't let childhood biases keep me from learning new things and finding new things to enjoy. If you catch my drift.
