I'm renting a Ram1500 for a one way move and hoping to tow a small rental trailer. The cost to rent a 12' or 16' truck is way more than I can afford and was hoping with a pre-installed hitch to have the ability to rent a ball hitch or similar to attach. Does the Ram1500 come equipped to handle this?

You have to ask the rental place to be sure. Most Ram trucks will come from the factory with a Class IV hitch, even the 1500 classic, but not all do. Even if not, the trailer rental place (especially U-Haul) should be able to provide whatever is needed to hook up. More importantly, you will need to be sure that the Ram rental company allows towing, not all do.

Around here the rental companies are putting their own hitch pin locks in the empty receiver. This prevents the customer from putting a hitch in it (unless he's into lockpicking or such).
