My husband has been accepted into a PhD program at UC and we will be moving sometime this summer. We're hoping for a home in a fairly safe, quiet area, preferably close-ish to campus. We'd like to have 2 bedrooms or 1 bedroom and a study for hopefully not more than $700 a month. I'd love to rent in a renovated historical building if possible. I've been checking on some places in the Clifton Gaslight area that seem pretty nice. We do have 2 cats, so pet-friendly places are a must. Does anyone have any advice?

clifton gaslight is a good start, although the walk up the hill is kind of a haul IMO even though people do it all day every day. it is generally the safest and quietest area around campus. don't overlook riddle rd or its offshoots, it is also a pretty quiet area.farther south look at the fairview area (fairview, warner, etc.) as well as klotter (either side), emming, and environs.

You need to be careful that the information you are receiving on Cincinnati is current. Some neighborhoods are being rejuvenated at a very fast rate. Neighborhoods like Hyde Park, Oakley, and Mt Lookout do not need rejuvenation as they are definitely among the nicest in the City itself, but you will also pay a higher price.

Blue Ash is an independent city outside of the City limits, a very nice place, but a longer commute and definiely higher priced. People typically select Blue Ash due to the qualify of its schools (Sycamore Schools). If schools are not yet in your area of concern I suggest you might be overpaying in Blue Ash.
