I had a friend that worked at the Cincinnati Public Library for a while, I believe he worked there from about 1993 - 1997 he befriended I guess a caretaker, or maybe a head janitor, and on his last day of working there he claims that this man revealed to him a secret about the Cincinnati Public Library. According to my friend, he was told that there used to be a garden on top of the Library, but due to the fact that so many people were going on the roof and jumping to their death, the rooftop was closed to the general public. However, the funding to keep the garden maintained was never stopped. So, for several years this garden was being maintained on the City's budget, but closed off to the general public. And only this head janitor or possibly a caretaker was given access to this top floor. According to my buddy, on his last day, this janitor took my friend to the top floor, and told him not to step off the elevator, but he claims to have seen this garden with his own eyes.

This was before Google earth ever came out, zooming in on the roof of the library now I can see no sign of a garden, but I was curious if anyone knows anything about this? Maybe just a few months or years after my friend left the library the funding may have stopped.

The reason this memory came to mind was partly due to this report: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/power-players-abc... I have always wondered about this garden, but I honestly never thought to ask about it in a forum.

Anyone know anything about this?

There is/was a rooftop terrace on the South Building. It can be seen on Google Maps. There are a few trees and what looks like tables and chairs. It is probably only reachable from the south buildings elevators, not main bank of elevators. I think I vaguely remember going out there as a small child with my mom.

Agreed. I believe that you can carry out books and read them on the roof.

Question Amazing

Wow! Finally, someone was able to verify what my old roommate once told me! I may try to keep pursuing this. Any chance that someone reading this has any old photos of this garden? That is so cool you can remember going on the roof with your mom. I don't get down to Cincinnati much anymore. jlawrence01 is there any chance you have been on the roof recently?
