It closed yesterday. Thought it was a good concept and figured the Esquire group did their due diligence and marketing research before they opened the theatre.

Sad to see an independent venture fail but the reviews were abysmal. This concept works fine at other venues I have been to, I am not sure what prevented them from getting it together.

AMC on Beechmont Avenue opened a similar concept. Wish Eastgate Brew and View had shown some of the independent movies you see at Esquire and Mariemont instead of the mainstream movies shown at nearby Milford Cinemark and AMC Beechmont.

It is a shame that Cincinnati can't support a world cinema/foreign language film-only theater. That would be something I would be willing to leave the comfort of my couch/Netflix for!

Do you patronize the Esquire and Mariemont theaters when they show foreign films? I've noticed most foreign films only show for a short time so it's very easy to miss something.

You can also check out the Mini Microcinema. They often screen foreign films and it's only a recommended $5 donation.

I do, and the theater in West Chester that occasionally shows Bollywood films. I just think it would be great to have a theater that specializes in foreign films. There is a reasonable Indian/Hispanic/Chinese population in the greater Cincinnati area, and having a theater that featured films from other major world film industries and had a concession stand with international offerings year round would be fun.

The very fact that there are multiple theaters around town that show foreign films suggests that there is a market for them in the Cincinnati area. Perhaps we should push for a theater to specialize in them. Just like we know to go to the Esquire or Mariemont theaters for art house and independent films, perhaps we could have a specialty theater that is the "go-to" for foreign films.
