East Price Hill (Cincinnati, Hamilton, Warsaw: crime rates, homes, neighborhood)

So how bad is this neighborhood really? I recently found out that a friend of mine is living here and I've pretty much only heard bad stuff on TV. I'm particularly interested in the area around the Glenway/McPherson intersection. Is it that bad or is most of it hyped up by the media?

Some of it is hyped but its not the most desirable neighborhood either. I wouldnt leave there.

It's so-so. There are better areas and there are worse areas .At the present time I also would not to live there either. However, I understand it's trying to make a comeback.

oh...it's really not a nice place at all!!
for ppl who are used to rough neighbors and crime, it's ok. but for ppl who are not used to that....well, i am what some would call poor or "white trash", and i wouldn't want to raise my children there. i would be afraid to let the 6 & 11 yr olds go out to play. things like kids who want to fight and drugs.

It amazes me that any person would choose to live in such a place. It is both aesthetically displeasing and dangerous all at the same time. What could prompt you to be "particularly interested" in the intersection of Glenway and McPherson? Its like being interested in the coffee grounds and eggshells in the garbage. Sure, if you could take the coffee grounds out of the garbage, they would make a nice amendment to the soil in your garden, but isn't it the wrong way to go about this? How about starting with a nice neighborhood where the kids won't be killed or abducted when they are outside and find affordable housing there? Or, come to OTR or Mt. Auburn and get some spectacular architecture but plan to chain your trash cans up so they don't get stolen at night. Pick one or the other, but East Price Hill? Yuck!

The problem with Price Hill isn't just where it's at ... it's where it's going.

By objective standards, Price Hill is probably still better than Over-the-Rhine, for example. But Price Hill is getting worse, and OTR is getting better.

So if you're going to live in an area with crime and decay issues, you might as well live in the one with a better location, better potential, and positive inertia.

Wow, this makes me really sad to read. I grew up on the corner of 8th and Elberon Avenues. It wasn't great back in the 60s and 70s, but it didn't feel "dangerous" either. Or maybe I was just a stupid kid and was unaware of how bad it was. Has it really degenerated that much?

For what it's worth McPherson intersects Warsaw not Glenway. And while I find your description of the area witty and amusing it's just anther one of your usual stereotypes this time wrapped up in an analogy. The corner of McPherson and Warsaw does not anyway define the aesthetics or the safety concerns of the rest of EPH.
