Default Moving to Cincinnati--need great public schools, short commute.

Have a job offer on table for Cincinnati, office is near Elm Street downtown. Looking for great public schools (elementary, middle and high school), as have we have kids in each range. Would like to keep commute down to 25-35 minutes. Housing budget is between $375-450K and prefer fairly newer (less 5 yrs old). Any suggestions?

Assuming that your office is downtown, your requirements allow several very good options.

The following are the most obvious choices to me. Your money will not go as far in some of these areas as in others.

Wyoming (north)
Madeira, Mariemont, Montgomery, Terrace Park (east)
Turpin Hills, Anderson Township (southeast)
Fort Thomas (Kentucky; south)

If you want new(er) construction, Anderson and Turpin Hills might be the places to look.

Hello, if you go into the Mason area..it's the best which would be North of the City...however, anywhere East of the City are the more affluent areas with the price range you are quoting, and commute you are looking for. Butler county schools are the best (again Mason area). Stay away from Hamilton County if possible. Good luck Cincinnati is a great town..I lived there for over 11 years and still regret moving. But what's done is now done.

You can stay away from Hamilton County if you WANT, but if you WANT the best schools, those are located IN Hamilton County...
Walnut Hills & Wyoming schools....

Actually, Mason is in Warren county. But you're correct, it's an excellent choice with some of the best schools in the area.

Hi Yoda. Next to what I said above about Mason, I would say go for West Chester. Keep in mind, the commutes from Mason and West Chester would be right at that 35-minute cutoff you prefer, but the extra minutes might be advantageous to you because the Mason and Lakota school districts are top-notch, and your children would receive an excellent education. Both areas are very new...with Mason being a bit newer than West Chester. Lots of money up here in these areas, with many affluent neighborhoods where you would easily find a newer-construction home in the price range you specified. Tons of shopping opportunities up here as well, plus great parks and fantastic libraries. Good recreational/family entertainment venues here as well.

Another good option for you to check out would be Montgomery - and as someone else pointed out, Anderson as well. Good luck, and welcome to the area.

Don't know as much about Kentucky, but on the Ohio side check out West Chester and Liberty Township(Lakota Schools),Loveland and Miami Township(Loveland Schools), Deerfield Township and Landen(Kings Schools), Mason ( Mason City Schools), Montgomery, Blue Ash, and Symmes Township( Sycamore Schools), Madeira( Madeira Schools), Mariemont and Terrace Park(Mariemont Schools), and Anderson ( Forest Hills Schools). I am not sure why anyone would say to stay away from Hamilton Co. Hamilton Co is where many of Cincinnati's best suburbs and nationally ranked schools are. All of the communities I listed are very nice and safe areas in excellent, top rated school districts. There is new construction and plenty of neighborhoods in your price range in these communties. I would search sibcycline.com for housing. Good luck!

I agree, the schools that are ranked "excellent" are in Hamilton County. Check out US News and World Report's new high school rankings for the country and you'll see that Walnut Hills in Cincinnati itself, Sycamore Schools - the area I prefer to live in, and Wyoming Schools, where I used to live, are nationally ranked.

You can go to the Ohio Dept. of Education's website or Greatschools.com to research school rankings for yourself.
