I have never seen Atlanta get so many votes just over one night lmao. It's crazy, Atlanta must have a lot of people represented on this site, because they can be losing by 10 votes, next thing you know they're winning by 5.

Actually it was once two publications, one in the morning (The Atlanta Constitution) and one in the evening (The Atlanta Journal), they merged and kept both names.

that's intresting folks bring up newspapers cause Cox that owns the AJC owns fifteen television stations, 86 radio stations, and the nation's 3rd largest cable company. Cox also owns Manheim and AutoTrader.com.

Cox Enterprises - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Which goes to show Atlanta is bigger in media than Miami. The company that owns the Miami herald is based in California...

It depends though, what do you consider media? Media can be tv stations and radio stations etc....this is where Atlanta excels. You know media can also be tv shows and movies etc....this is where Miami excels. Atlanta is a more "behind the scenes" type of city, while Miami is more the "center stage" type of city, making it more popular just scrolling down your tv guide.

Watching international news certainly isn't the cure for ignorance...and I can guarantee you that people in Spain know roughly as much about the U.S. as Americans do about Spain. People normally have more knowledge about events/news/etc. that are important to them - not those half a world away.

Default Miami, hands down

Probably depends on how you look at this but, after having lived in South Florida for 8 years prior to coming back to Atlanta, I would have to say, South Florida/Miami has the edge.

It's what people seem to want. The media chases the markets and their market is hot compared to Atlanta. It wasn't that way so much in the late 80's and early 90's, but thanks to shows like Miami Vice and the infamous movie Scarface, people started to look at the market.

Couple that with Telemundo and other large Hispanic gateways to Latin America and beyond and it's easy to see the contrast. Population counts are similar to Atlanta's region, divesity to boot.

The movie industry, trade, even print media still seem to hang on down there where Atlanta's on any given day seem to fade.

To be fair, Turner and associated holdings reside here but, as far as media count and interest??? Not so sure.

Regardless, they are both in the Southeast and it's fair to say that the two cities ARE the dominant forces in the region and will remain so for decades to come. Outside of these two cities/markets, is there anything that can compare South of DC, East of Houston/Dallas? Me thinks not.

Florida's density will ultimately leverage the media interests their way. There are in excess of 12 million living in Florida. Fully 1/2 of those live in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach Counties.

Now, toss in the growing treasure coast, Orlando's proximity and the re-birth of Tampa?

Contrast that with Atlanta. An island unto itself. 8 million or so in the state, a little over 55 percent live in the metro. I know there are those that would bloat that number to 5.5 million but that's a real stretch. Metro proper is anywhere from 17-22 counties by most measures and 4.5 million is about all you are going to squeeze from that grape.

Miami or Atlanta? Miami has the edge in most, if not all, forms of media venues. Not really sure it matters as theirs is more pointed towards entertainment where Atlanta might be more traditional and b2b?

Thoughts?

Then how do you explain "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" craziness? That doesn't fit any of your theories, at all. I hate to use that show as an example, but it does invalidate some of what you say.

There is a lot of tv and film production going on here now. Screen Gems and another studio have announced major plans just in the past month.

Where Miami trumps Atlanta is in the fashion shoot arena, and they are almost untouchable in that category.
