I'm impressed by Texas (number 1), Iowa (a small state ahead some big states as California) and North Dakota (very small population but it can compared to New York about wind power )
I was surprised at little Iowa too. Shame on big Cali and all their wind. I remember a couple of summers ago when they had energy shortages and we had to throw them a bone. Catch up California. You are the big dogs remember

California can't catch up Texas, it's too late and Texas owns much more wind resources than California.
But soon California will have the world's largest wind farm (1550 MW), it's rather a good thing.
But Texas is clearly the king of wind power in the US, many investments occured there, West Texas particularly because very windy.
Iowa is impressive because 14% of its electricity comes from the wind in 2009 (7% in 2008)
Houston is positioned to play a critical role in alternative energy.
Wind:
- #1 state in wind power generation, and producing 26% of the country's wind power
- City of Houston is the largest U.S. municipal purchaser of wind energy
- R&D center for world's largest wind blade manufacturer, Vestas

After the hot-mess that was the BP oil spill, one would hope that the city of Houston would realize the need to attract a diversified amount of businesses (even if it means alternative/green energy businesses) to the area...I don't think there'll ever be a moratorium on wind/solar harvesting...
No.CA was second in 2007 but Iowa surpassed it ! The wind power growth in CA is weak but strong in Iowa. Many think Washington and Minnesota will surpass it too.
Besides in Minnesota some big wind projects are under construction.
