I have a job offer from Seattle based company and another from St. Louis based company.

I have never been to either of the places and that's what makes it difficult for me to decide.

Say I earn 95K in Seattle and 85K in St. Louis - where would I be able to make a larger savings?

FYI: I am married with no children. My wife doesn't work. Both of us like living in a natural setting then in a downtown.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

St. Louis is cheaper so you could buy more things and such. But, the crime there is one of the worst in the country and overall Seattle's economy is better.

Therefor Seattle is ten times better.

St. Louis is a grand old city, if you can see past the rough edges. Seattle is "hip" and happening, but doesn't have an ounce of the grandeur St. Louis does. St. Louis was built to be a great American city.

Depending where at, commute might be rough though, as it is a busy city.
I've never been to Seattle, but I'm un-sure of economy, and if you're not wanting to live in rural/city area, it might be a long walk uphill both ways in the snow, to work

I'd assume cost of living would be much higher in Seattle, I'd go with St Louis. The weather and sports scene's much better in SL, despite the crappy Rams.

The crime in St. Louis is in a very small area of the entire metro area. Outside of those areas the crime rate is lower than the average metro. But the OP said wanting a more natural area so urban area crime rates are of little issue.

For COL issues St. Louis would be cheaper that would likely offset the salary difference and then some. Also consider various taxes, my guess is St. Louis would be lower there as well.

One other issue is where in these metros are the jobs located, this would be important for various factors.

I think it's more of a city vs suburbs issue, I'm sure there's plenty of safe area's in the St Louis Metro, he just has to inquire and explore the avenues himself.

Get informed people. The St. Louis metro is actually safer than the Seattle metro (at least it was in 2007)

http://www.cqpress.com/docs/Metro%20...gerous_14E.pdf

Seattle metro ranks as 74th most dangerous, while the St. Louis metro ranks as 121st most dangerous. If the OP wants to live in a more "natural setting" then crime shouldn't be an issue in either place, especially St. Louis.

Tough decision! I think the biggest thing you should look at is the fact that 85k will go MUCH further in StLouis than 95k will in Seattle. So if COL or money in general is a big issue, then I would probably go with StL.

StL is very central to the united states and most of the country is easily accessible by air or car or even train while Seattle is very remote and isolated from most of the country although you do have Portland and Vancouver nearby Seattle.

Crime is a non issue unless you choose to live in some ghetto part of StLouis. Most of the metro and even the city are as safe as any major metro area.

StLouis doesn’t have traffic compared to Seattle.

Both towns offer about the same cultural and sports offerings although I think Seattle has more recreational opportunities.

If you want natural beauty than it’s difficult to beat the pacific northwest.

Being empty nesters and seeming to like natural vs urban, I would go with Seattle, but if you want less stress, less traffic, a more central location and more home for your money, than go with StLouis.
