Im looking for a gay-friendly city that won't discriminate against my gay daughter. It doesn't matter which state.

Are cold temps a problem for you? Would Boston be to large of a city to consider?

You wouldn't have any problems in Madison Wisconsin with that issue.

How old is your daughter? If she is in high school or junior high school, she may face taunts wherever she goes, even in areas known for being more progressive. Kids are cruel. I would recommend if that is the case, if possible, enrolling her in a performing arts high school, where gay students are largely accepted.

On a statewide level however, Massachusetts indeed is the best place for gays to be as it is currently the only state that, to my knowledge, doesn't legally discriminate against gays on some level. If your daughter is a teenager, these sorts of legal issues (i.e. marriage, inheritance rights, insurance coverage, etc.) may not seem so important, but as an adult, they most certainly are.

Almost anywhere on the Pacific coast will be fine. Don't take that to mean "the entire states of California, Oregon and Washington," though. Inland areas are more suspect (Sacramento is an exception).

Isn't it a shame that you even have to ask such a question, but I understand a person asking with this country the way it is. Oregon is good for a gay woman, girl etc. It seems for some reason, that I can't explain attracts a large lesbian population, although in the cities, Portland being the largest one. Yes the Boston area is a very good choice, however very very expensive.

I was just at the Atlanta Gay Pride festival this past weekend. I am not gay, I was working as a vendor. There were something like 300,000 participants. And you know, it was very peaceful, that was just a really nice crowd of people. I have a live and let live attitude, I generally don't have much to do with the gay/lesbian scene, but I was very impressed. I have heard that Atlanta has the 2nd largest gay population in the country, after San Francisco. Much cheaper too! If possible, stay intown or in the close-in suburbs.

We don't have much cold weather down here though!
