Don't care for Canada or California as sole entities though. Really do hate this whole region, state, country stuff.

Is there a fact book that you're writing based on? How someone feels about a certain city/state is subjective, so you can't really say I'm wrong..

Anyways, in the end, I would pick NYC, Philly, Raleigh, Boston, Montreal, or Toronto over anywhere in California. Maybe California just isn't for me. Like I said, I'm more of an East coast guy, so that could very well be it. Never said California is a bad place though.

I guess a good question to ask would be, how long have you lived in California? I mean, if you moved from Boston when you were a kid, you obviously are somewhat bias. Sure, I haven't lived in New York, or Boston, so I guess I would have to live there before I can comment on how friendly people there are. Now, as far as Toronto/Montreal go..no question in my mind that people there are more friendly than Californians. No question at all. And I think just about everyone who has lived in both places will agree with me. When I moved here during high school, there were two other students who had moved from Canada as well. Both of them were a year older than me (seniors). Within 2 years of living in California, they returned back to Canada. Met a few other Canadians here who moved back recently.
Honestly, Can't F'n blame them! I been in and out of CA for 3 yrs since getting here. A family situation brought me but to say the least I never liked it here. Some Californians on here would probably tell me oh, you gotta see SF or see San Diego, its not all Sacramento! or its not all moviestars! SAVE IT. I firmly believe Canada is friendlier also based on the few times I been or heard about it. I know I had visions of a winter wonderland anyhow where more people are nice at times. They were never media ads though unlike the Beach Boys and HOLLYWOOD getting on TV 24/7. BTW I am also from Boston area and hate California with a passion. I lived in FL for 7 yrs and can't wait to return to lovely Tampa area. So much more to do there for me and someone of my age (33). CA is slowly becoming just a dream, a sad retirement state for the baby boomers. Everyone is leaving and its for good reason.

I also don't like when people ask how your day is going when you're in line because they don't have the intention of being my friend so its extremely pointless to me. Even in FL I don't remember getting all this insane politeness like out here on the West Coast. And as far as meeting new friends or dates, forget about it. They all have problems or substance abuse issues of some kind, only they try not to let it out in the open so much. If Californians are good at one thing, its hiding their dirty laundry but its still somehow always known about so they aren't that good are they?

Could be. Though later on, you admit to having never lived in some of these cities. I'd hold such concise judgement until you, like me, have lived there.

...

I moved on my own when I was 18. I've lived here for, in total, about 7 of those years, with gaps inbetween for Seattle and NYC.

Nah, my parents thought that California was evil or something, so I hadn't set foot here until I was 17 and paid to come on my own to look at colleges.

Yes.

I don't know of many Bostonians who would actually state that people from Mass are "friendly." Most of the negative stereotypes you hear about CA are somehow centric around how people are too friendly. They call us "M *******s" for a reason

I know of plenty of New Yorkers who will tell you that they're way friendlier than Californians. They'll also tell you that they have better Mexican food than California, better Florida Keys than the Florida Keys, and that their water makes for magical fairy bread

I only ever visited Montreal and Toronto but found people to be generally friendly. I spent a lot of time in Victoria and Vancouver because I had a Canadian GF and generally found the people there to be plenty pleasant and agreeable. I like it up there, I really do, and absolutely would not mind someday having a place up in Vic to retreat to, to get some writing done. This said, I know a good number of Canadians who have moved down here and generally love it, other than having to pay for health insurance.
MA isn't perfect, we all know that. Its a high cost socialist hell these days BUT do I prefer it over California? Yes. Although wouldn't choose to move to either one as a bright and young generation x/millennial looking for regular work and being able to pay his rent. Personalitywise though, give me MA. At least its honest when the stereotypes of *******ry are real.

Californians are fake friendly so to me its extremely meaningless and nobody wants to be a friend. At least "M*******s" are friends for life when you get to them finally.

Cleaner? Yes sure. More vibrant or nicer? No.
Yo Lizard, I see you're in FL which I find so f'n funny and you're like a CA homer. LEAVE FL ASAP. I plan to return to lovely FL FROM California soon. California is NOT all that lovely now is it? St Pete/Tampa/Sarasota, Orlando > Sacramento and San Diego, L.A , SF combined.

I am laughing so hard man.. seriously. you're some tool over in FL parading how CA is so much better than Canada or anywhere. I would rather give Canada a chance than stay in California for damn sure, but at the end of the day, I am going to settle down in the Tampa area but by all means, you're welcome to trade with me if you love this hellhole state so much.

Its like SF has what Vancouver and Toronto each lack.
Who gives a crap!! Is everything all about looks??

Probably California. IMO in Canada, Vancouver and Toronto are the only cities worth seeing.

Montreal is absolutely worth seeing - every bit as much as Toronto and Vancouver!
