Fierce rivals, to some extent, as they're considered (along with Clearwater) to be part of the same metro area...but they're in different counties. Hillsborough and Pinellas respectively.
I'm not really sure of the "rules" here on City vs. City, but I haven't been to both cities in most of the cases listed, so I can't form an opinion on a place I've never been.
Being that these two are RIGHT next to each other, I thought I would hear more opinions.
St Petersburg IMO is more interesting in terms of architecture and the fact that it's surrounded by water gives it more of a tropical feel. Tampa gets all the attention for some reason, mostly out of lack of awareness of modern day St Pete versus the out-dated stigma of being all old people, etc.
Crime: St Pete's crime is worse
Jobs: Tampa has more
Entertainment: Same. St Pete's is just more centralized
Food: St Pete has better seafood, Tampa has better spanish food.
Meh, I lived in the Tampa Bay Area for many years in different points of my life.
St. Pete and Tampa are merely yin and yang. Very accessible. It's not like the separation of Dallas and Ft. Worth.
In a nutshell:
Tampa is trendy.
St. Pete is more artsy and funky (but it still has its appeal to boomers and older...I noticed this when I went to the Chihuly Museum in St. Pete last month, I was like the second youngest in the area, lol.)
