Each city has a light rail line. Which city has embraced transit more? Predict which city will become the more transit using city over the next 20 years?

I vote Charlotte because, I think, it's denser and growing faster. Add a poll.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the population density of Phoenix is a good bit higher than Charlotte's, but that doesn't mean that I disagree with you about which city will embrace rail transit the best. It's not an easy comparison...Phoenix has about twice as many miles of track and double Charlotte's ridership - but the population of Phoenix is also twice that of Charlotte.

I think which ever system builds out the most and the fastest, that's the one that will be embraced the best.

Well both have only rather recently built their first light rail line, and I think ridership projections have been exceeded in both (I know they have in Charlotte).

Charlotte's long-range transportation plan can be found here. Anybody know where Phoenix's can be found?

Is the answer Charlotte? I wasn't aware of any initiative (and especially enthusiasm) for light rail in Phoenix?

Phoenix has a 20-mile light rail line that goes through three municipalities.

In the 3+ years that the light rail in Charlotte has been open, it's really made a mark on the city, I can't really imagine Charlotte without it now.

I would say when considering the size of these two cities, Charlotte is much further along in transit development than Phoenix.

Charlotte, because it's much smaller and already farther along, and has big plans.

Seriously? Only 14,000 people per day ride it according to the latest APTA ridership figures. Phoenix gets 40k people per day. And didn't Charlotte recently shut down their streetcar line? Also Charlotte bus ridership is really low. Only 68k people per day. How successful can light rail be without a bus system to be the backbone?

I haven't ridden Charlotte's light rail and I have ridden Phoenix's but IMO Phoenix wins this easily.
