I have a buddy of mine hows a semi professinal skateboarder who is looking to open his own skate shop, and is thinking of leaving nyc also. Heres some areas he has in mind.
Ohio-Cincinnati
New York State- Albany
Florida- Jacksonville, Orlando
Someone help him with what area he should deside?
I'm asking people who know great knowledge of those areas and can tell me what the scene is out there. Remember he's like me hes in his early 20's.
Well I would say Florida Orlando. There are so many NYers there. Also it is better than Jacksonville. But the thing is that FL gets too hot during the summer that is unbearable. Howevr if hes ready for that then ill say to go for it.
Has he thought about Syracuse? With Syracuse University here and you have kids that are into the scene up here, it might work. He could possibly do the snowboarding thing as well.
Jacksonville, Florida. 3 words, Kona Skate Park. One of the best skate parks in the country. Plus there are a lot of NYers in Florida, including myself.
Like Clean Polo said its between FL and CA. You have to consider where you'll be in business year around... you're not going to be selling skateboards in the middle of January in Chicago or most of the midwest because no one wants to be outside. Likewise, you won't be selling them in the middle of summer in Texas for the same reason. California is conducive for year-round skateboarding, and especially LA. But on the same token, those markets are pretty saturated with shops already... its not an easy question.
