Well I guess I have just been lucky so far since I have walked down hundreds of streets in Detroit in my lifetime and never worried about being shot up just for walking down the street. It's funny how you can almost tell who has ever been to Detroit and who haven't. As for that Atlanta comment, smh. So you think Atlanta should be bulldozed because it has ghetto people??? Not enough rednecks in Atlanta to make you feel at home huh???

Atlanta and Detroit are similar because of their large black population and presence. Atlanta right now was what Detroit was back in the day.

Detroit had 1.5 million whites and 300,000 blacks back in the day... Hardly a black mecca.

This fact is the only thing that the two cities really have in common. Detroit is an old boom town that went bust, Atlanta is a new boom town that has not had a bust yet. In 1950 Detroit was every bit as desirable as Atlanta is today. I truely hope Detroits history is not repeated in todays boomtowns of the sunbelt. What happened to Detroit is such a sad event, I wouldnt wish that on any town. Atlanta is a nice area, the only real criticism I have of it is traffic. Atlanta traffic problems are legendary, not sure how they can fix that.

Atlanta will not end up like Detroit because it's not dependent on one industry like Detroit's was. Actually I'm not even sure what the main industry is in the ATL.

This.

Detroit is synonymous with one thing: cars. Atlanta has Coca Cola, Tyler Perry, and the Real Houswives. And Delta Airlines, right? Yea, it's gonna be a sad day when those companies/industries for whatever reason leave ATL. But that doesn't seem too likely in the near future.

The "reality show" industry. No seriously I believe it's CocaCola or CNN.

Transportation, telecommunications, and media are big industries in Atlanta.

Transportation and logistics are the main industries in Atlanta, but the economy is pretty diversified. A lot of the industry is just business services and management for the southeastern part of the country. The southeast's economy in general has languished lately, so it has taken a bite out of Atlanta too. Fortunately, things are improving cautiously, like in most of the country.
