Because of the design of newer skyscrapers. They just look more powerful and modern to me. Old 70s skyscrapers are ugly and bland. There's a big difference in the design of newer and older skyscrapers.

You still can't beat history. The new World Trade Center may be even more relevant for future generations, but not those of us who are older. Of course there's the emotional significance behind the WTC, but the new towers themselves aren't as culturally relevant as the Hancock Center and the Sears Tower.
sears tower, or willis tower is it now. I wonder how many people realize that the top of the flat block roofline of the sears tower is about 400 ft taller than the top roofline of the empire state bldg. It looks wayyy taller in person than anything else, honestly chicago overall looks taller, but the sears is one huge bldg.
I can honestly say...i don't see the significants in the John Hancock Building. I like the window design, and think its unique, but I don't understand how its one of the most powerful buildings in the USA. Otherwise I'd say...

I like this building but to me I just think there is something so pure with the Hancock Building. Chicago does have super talls that stick out (Willis, Hancock, Prudential Building (Not enough credit as it is also raw esp from Millenium park), and the new Trump. I also very much like the ESB, it is massive, especially when viewed with the base, very iconic.
Oddly the Sears (willis) looks bent at times. I snapped this on my camera a little over a year ago because it looked bent and the image caught it. Has anyone else ever noticed this up close?
