Because minorities try to figure out ways to get to cities where other minorities are. Whites try to figure out ways to get to cities where minorities aren't.

Cities such as Seattle and Portland are defined not so much by the presence of white people as they are by the absence of minorities (especially blacks). So the popular perception is that those cities are as "pure" (read: white) as one can get. Most of American history has been about white people trying to get away from minorities.

It's a different story when it comes to minority populations, however. Even if a black person moves to Metro Atlanta, Chicago or Washington, DC, they'll still be living in a majority white MSA. So Atlanta, despite its large black population, can never be "purely" black the way that Portland is "purely" white. But Atlanta would still be considered a "black capital" because that's where the numbers are.

This OP never restricted this comparison to city limits and rarely is any discussion in here restricted to city limits, and rightfully so. Miami has very small city limits too so it's ridiculous to try to just go by city limits but that's the only way NY can seem more of a Latin city. Cut the BS and get real already.

if you guys believe that miami takes over NYC and LA, why doesnt it have tha same numbers (in population)as these two cities?

its because miami does not have the same influence than LA or NYC, it does not have the same impact.

And this is why LA posters also agree that Miami shouldn't even be in the conversation. Miami is just too small to compare to LA and NYC.

Though in terms of Latin diversity, Miami absolutely WHOOPS LA.

However, to us in the Northeast, maybe we're a bit more defensive about our borders but most people in NYC live their whole lives in the 300 square mile area, so we have little use to add our 'metro' when its not needed.

NOTE: It can't. It's not anymore a "Hispanic capital" as San Antonio is.

In addition, New York City has more Hispanics than the city of Los Angeles therefore, NYC is the Hispanic capital of the United States

Hate to do this again, BUT:

1) City of LA has less Hispanics than the City of New York
2) LA really only has 3 groups of Hispanics more than NYC (Mexicans, Guatemalans, and Salvadorians)

Miami cant seem to catch a break on this forum, everyone is always taking Miami's merits away. I suppose people on this forum never want to see Miami win at anything. This thread shows one thing, those dismissing Miami have never been.

Wont matter, south Floridans seem to not care for this forum or any Internet forum much anyways

Neither do New Yorkers, the city that was omitted from this poll.

It's sad how Angelenos attack Miami for not having enough population, but don't dare compare it to NYC when its city limits to city limits.

Bottom line:

1) 2.3 million Hispanics is more than 1.8 million Hispanics
2) 1.9 million Spanish speakers is more than 1.5 million Spanish speakers.

It's not very hard to figure out.

This is not about NYC right now this is about the hispanic capital of America. Doent it make more sense if more hispanics are living in Los Angeles then Miami therefore the hispanic capital is Los angeles. Los Angeles is so full of mexicans that they were about to make english and spanish the main languages!
