Get. Over. It.
Well that's not that case. It was a genuine question, no need to get so defensive.

They're not the same cities. Get over it.

I was just in the Bay Area. Its unique and should be viewed as such.

SF is the figurehead, but it should be seen as one big area because after all, it is one metro.

My bad, you're correct. I thought marin was lumped with Sonoma for some reason.

Doesn't make a difference. Greater nyc and chicagoland include cities from several different states. So why is the Bay Area complicated? Its a highly populated area surrounding the bay that is highly connected at many levels. We even have a connected media. There is a reason why people view the bay area as greater san francisco and why its always compared to other metro areas.

It's true, but I thought this thread was about city propers. Fitting the comparison with all other cities listed, it should only be San Francisco.

But it's not if you read the thread. At least most of the time.

Seems to me the OP was talking about cities and naturally from there people started talking about metro regions.

99% of the discussions on this board involve metro areas. It's rarely just city limits, which are invisible and arbitrary.

Looking at the map on the previous page, it's insane that people still argue that San Jose and San Francisco are not part of the same urban footprint.

Seriously, get over it. The chutzpah of someone from New Jersey, a state with several cities that epitomize the notion of being part of a bigger whole, continuously harping on "city limit! city proper!” and nothing else. These cities ride the coattails of NYC and benefit from being part of the NYC metro. Does Newark even have an identity of its own other than having an airport and being part of the NYC metro? Does anyone even care to talk about just Jersey City or Paterson?

City proper/city limit is meaningless and outdated. Who still thinks like that?

Why would you think that? Where in the thread did it indicate only city propers are being discussed? Even the OP on the 2nd page said: "I was going by the proximate metropolitan regions on max size which for the Bay Area is the CSA."

You've been on C-D long enough to know when people are talking about cities, usually they are talking about the general metro area.

This thread would be pretty useless if it was just about the city proper.
