No, I've been there...downtown St. Paul, Minnehaha and U M's campus. In February, when it was a warm 37 degrees. We worked out of whatever big hotel in downtown St. Paul has a sloped glass side, particularly visible from the breakfast area.

Why did you go to Minneapolis in February? Is that your viewpoint of the area? If so, at least your takeaway should be that the city doesn't shut down in the winter like so many other cities do. 37 can be a warm temp in Feb though, especially if it was around the beginning of the month. You're lucky you didn't experience an "Alberta Clipper", but I think everyone should know what "real" cold is at least once in their lifetimes....at least so they don't complain everytime they don't feel 100% comfy and cozy.

I had to. For work. I've also heard it bad-mouthed by educated people from the Lower Midwest (Ohio River Valley) who got transferred there and worked to get OUT of there, and one woman who moved from LA because her husband works for a major company headquartered there. She says that you barely know your neighbors because everyone is burrowing.
So then, what kind of nightlife that can a politically correct city offer? I bet that quality of nightlife correlates positively with warm weather.

Who cares? I know a hundred other people (not from OH) who say the opposite. Does that make me righter? I know people from FL and CA who LOVE MN and HATE where they came from....and that's a much more common theme.
Maybe you don't have a family (or one that actually likes you) but many people like family-oriented cities, and that does not have to necessarily detract from the nightlife (bet you didn't get out much on your business trip).

You need to clarify whether these are returnees. I seriously doubt someone who has spent most of their life in FL and CA will just choose to move to MN and fall in love with it. I might want to see the North Woods and Lake Superior at peak color, but that's where it stops. I don't believe your stats. They seem inflated. Many CA folks living in the PNW say they like a few aspects of their experience better, mainly those who came up when the prices were right, but really have their hearts in California. And WA/OR is much less of a shock to the system to a Californian than is Minnesota.

Well crawl out of your rock and you'll be amazed at what you find. My family moved to SF from Chicago via Minneapolis and, although they love SF, they dearly miss Minneapolis. It probably sucks as much as you say though...
