I love how people are pretending these are really important cities. Lets be real. Denver is where you fly to when you go skiing at Loveland or where ever. San Diego is where you can actually go and have a good vacation.
Outside of being near mountains, Denver does not offer really anything that near by cities like KC can't offer.
SD maybe small but it is much more legit than Denver will be 100 years from now. I have to agree, I'd put Denver up there with Portland-over hyped and not as hip as residents think it is.

Excellent post Lakeshore, I know San Diego is not the most important city but really much more of a destination city than Denver will ever be

Denver is in fact a destination city, it's where some people from Chicago end up moving after they endure another grey, firgid, crappy winter. I wasn't aware that Denver is America's fourth fastest growing city; must be hype... Yes, no one passes through Denver on their way to generic resorts like Aspen and Vail where real estate prices make the Magnificent Mile look laughable by comparison. I never reallized that KC had mountain streams and forest in their Western suburbs, thanks for that incredibly informative post.

You could show some pictures from this decade for starters that include an actual mountain backdrop.
Love the way you cherry picked those San Diego vs. Denver shots bro.

wiat, I lived in Portland..its not over hyped. Mountains, rivers, nearby ocean, green forest infused...good employment, nice people, easy to navigate...whats not to like, except for the overcasts that last for 8 months?
Why is Denver larger than sd? Why is Denver growing faster than sd? Why does Denver have a better economy than sd? Why is Denver's GDP higher than sd? Why are Denver residents more fit and educated than sd residents? Why are there more cultural institutions in Denver than sd?
Just cant get around the butt uglyness of Denver. There are no native trees that I am aware of. Anything not planted by humans there is just a weed. The winters are brown, barren and dead looking. SD looks good YEAR ROUND. Plus you can plan things in SD, the weather in Denver is too unpredictable.

Because California does not want to grow anymore.
San Diego has better Colleges than dn. I seriously doubt the residents of San Diego are less fit or educated than dn.
The natural diversity of San Diego is part of the urban fabric: the beaches, bays, canyons, mesas, and hills are part of the city, unlike dn.
You are comparing the #1 city of your state, with the #3 city of California.
I find it annoying how people actually think natural scenery puts SD ahead of Denver as a city. Like really? All the SD boosters have done is brag so far. "Blah Blah, SD is in a higher league, and Denver is ugly". Can I get so stats or something to show SD is just Sooooo far ahead? In 100 years, for all you know, SD could have been devestated by an earthquake, so don't act as if you KNOW SD will be way higher up in the future (Not saying Denver will be).
And you do realize few US cities are destination/vacation spots? Denver has plenty to do if you want a vacation.
-All major sports teams
-One of the largest water parks in the USA
-A convinently located amusement park
-Many great museums
-The Denver Zoo
-Take a quick trip to the mountains.
-Downtown Aquarium
Only to name a few.
