And the LA Olympics became the model for successful Olympics in the last 25 years. Prior to that most Olympics were a financial mess--Montreal was in debt for over $1 Billion after 1976 and hardly anyone even wanted to bid for the Olympics after that. Peter Ueberroth used a combination of existing facilities and corporate sponsorship to make the 1984 games financially viable--and since then you've had other Summer Olympics that actually profited as well as in Seoul and Sydney.

Which should be probably be the key criterea for selecting a viable Olympic site. But on the other hand, the Olympic officials don't care if the host city/country goes bankrupt(Sorry Athens!) as long as they pay off the right people in the bidding process. But most cities that construct a bunch of facilities for the Olympics end up with a bunch of empty facilties to pay off for years later.
Which should be probably be the key criterea for selecting a viable Olympic site. Cities like LA, Boston, The Bay Area, and DFW really don't have to build much because of the already massive amounts of arenas already existing in the cities immediate area.
I'd want to see the Winter Olympics as well, in addition to "Total Olympics" -- both fields!
