I'm saying that a lot of west coasters seem to take pride in siding with underdogs - whether those are cities, regions, countries, etc. Maybe it's because they're used to it.

Last I checked, California was anything but an underdog in this country, chief.

Seriously, what's your hangup about Mexican food? Never seen anyone, whether they like it or not, act like it has little to no role in the US food scene. I remember driving from Columbus to southern Kentucky on a camping trip and stopping in this tiny town that had one small shopping plaza. The only restaurants were a Subway and a Mexican restaurant. They're everywhere.
